Now is the Time for all Good Women to Write!

When you took typing classes many moons ago like I did when I was in Ohio, did you type this phrase: Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.  Well, there is no better time to practice my writing than now.  One of my dear friends from Sisters in Crime/LA asked to review a story I have been working on.  And she asked if I was writing and how much I wrote each day.  Well, the sad truth is that I have not been writing.  Very much.  At all.

My sweet friend told me about some computer program that keeps track of how many words you write and if you do not reach your goal (whatever you set - 500 or 1000 words per day), a little window pops up to tell you how you are doing, or not doing, as the case may be.  That seemed pretty frightening to me, but I'm sure it works for some.

What I want to do is write - here, in this blog, to get myself writing.   So, here I go.  This is my first post and I hope they get more interesting as time goes by.  I will certainly read your feedback - Thank You in advance.

Let me begin by saying that Fair Oaks Avenue is still torn up a bit here in SP, traffic at times is down to one lane, going north and south, so, when will it ever end?  I must do some research on this in order that I may answer my own question.  I "heard" it will take about a year, but not sure when that timeframe started.  For the next blog, I hope to have an answer about the street repair.  I do know the ARRA funds are being used to pay for the project. At least that is what the signs say. You know the one, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  I'm not sure the city of South Pasadena needed the particular remodeling that Fair Oaks Avenue is receiving, but the money is giving jobs to some.

I specifically question the way the streets do not allow a car to turn right, except from the driving lane.  We used to be able to turn from the parking lane, sort of a third lane.  Now, cars must move into traffic and then turn, instead of just going straight and then turning.  Does anyone know where the logic is in this?  Please advise.

Have you noticed the empty buildings on Monterey, on the west side of the city?  They are really turning into an eyesore.  And next to them is a new housing development, one of those live/work sort of buildings.  I guess the businesses that used to be in the neighborhood went under.  Too bad.  I have hope that other businesses will move in shortly.  In the near future.  You get the idea.
