When all the big guys and dolls come together and agree to raise the debt ceiling, with compromises for some and disappointments too, will it be a big surprise that it finally happened? Not to me. This is high drama at its peak. The players have demonstrated their frustrations, high hopes, and doomsday predictions, and the bottom line is that the United States will still be the big dog in the world if the debt ceiling is not raised.
I sincerely believe that the vote will come in at the last minute and all will declare they had a part in it, and yuk it up as though they really cared. I think all the players really care about is themselves and their ultimate historical hand in the mess. Of course, it depends on who is telling the story how it will be viewed or heard. This is politics working overtime but on the global stage since the world can watch the shenanigans in pretty much real time.
I'm just embarrassed that the folks involved look and act like spoiled children in a playground. We've got the bullies and the bullied, the smug and the snooties, and the "If you are not playing ball my way, then I don't want to play," or "If you don't want to play my way, I'm taking the ball away" kind of folks in the game.
As greedy as they all are, they will not let the U.S. fail, simply because those with the money want to keep making the money. Notice I have not mentioned any names or political affiliations since these folks are all in the same boat. Some are just on one side or the other.
Note to Obama: You cannot please all the people all the time, but you are doing a grand job of trying to make it happen. Too bad there are some who want to see you fail just to see you fail, damn what happens to the U.S. along the way.
The countdown is on...
